More and more web development has moved to content management systems (CMS), and within that, more and more use Open Source systems. The report documents the growing impact of these systems. While meticulously comparing the four leading systems (Drupal, Joomla, Plone and WordPress), the report will also succeed in furthering acceptance of this type of approach to web site development overall. Open Source content management systems reduce development costs, enable smoother knowledge transfer to the client once the site launches, and simplify support and hosting on in to the future.

In our software planning and strategy projects with clients, we find growing acceptance of using Open Source software for mission-critical needs. And while we continue to work with a range of software, from Microsoft .Net, to large commercial content management systems, to WordPress for very basic sites, we find more and more projects amenable to implementation in Drupal. Drupal’s emphasis on rich support for collaborative teams, knowledge sharing, flexible communication, and integration of all kinds of data make it a strong fit for us and our clients.

Steve is a regular contributor to Idealware’s blog and an organizational advisor to its leadership. We greatly appreciate the high quality of the reports, articles and webinars Idealware produces, and use its materials whenever we can in our consulting. We expect this report to make a big difference and hope you will take a look, at whatever stage of web design and planning your are at.
