Equal Marriage Victory

The Database Designs team joins in celebrating the preservation of equal marriage protection in the state of Massachusetts.

It's Wrong to Vote on RightsOver the last three years, many progressive organizations and political leaders supported this campaign. At the center, MassEquality.org, a coalition of local and national organizations, has worked to defend equal marriage rights for same-sex couples and protect the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's 2003 decision in support of marriage equality.

MassEquality took on a well-funded and vocal opposition movement that focused its efforts on placing on the 2008 MA election ballot an amendment to the Massachusetts constitution that would have banned gay marriage.

This spring, under the slogan "It's Wrong to Vote on Rights," the MassEquality coalition developed a media campaign and legislative strategy that led to victory. On June 14, 2007 the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives - sitting together in a Constitutional Convention - defeated the proposed amendment by a vote of 151-40!

The MassEquality.org website served as a key focus for organizing, fundraising and raising public awareness. Database Designs is proud of the work two of its developers-Sarah Bennett and Mike Tobias-played in developing the web-based infrastructure and maintaining a customized database to support this extensive fund-raising and mobilization campaign.

Congratulations to all the people who helped to ensure this historic victory!
